  1. It is said that hedge schools existed in the district in the time of my father.
    There was a hedge school in Knox and another in Drumacleeskin.
    A man named Philip Brady taught in Drumaclesskin and Harry Smith taught in Know.
    The hedge schools were generally situated under the shade of the bushes and hedges. The chief language they learned was Irish. The books they used were bought in the shops by the children, and these were handed down from one member of the family to the other, according
