    weddings in the old days. As many as six horsemen would start from the chapel in front of the wedding party. They would take the country across hedges and fences each one trying to arrive first for the prize that was offered when the bride's house was reached. The prize was a bottle of whiskey. I also heard him say that his own mother came home behind her husband on horse-back. There was a special saddle for the bride; it was called a pillion and was shaped like an arm-chair and attached to the ordinary saddle.
