  1. Fifty years ago there was a snowstorm so severe that one could walk across the country without being able to distinguish the ditches from the fields. Numbers of people, cattle and sheep were lost.
    There was a big wind one hundred years ago, so strong that it knocked all the trees in the wood near Kingscourt, and blocked all the roads.
