passed through Nazareth. They were all tired and thirsty but one was worse than all the rest. A little Boy of Nazareth noticed him. He ran, took the soldier's cap out of his hand and filled it with water at a fountain. He brought it, quickly to the soldier, who had a most delicious and badly-needed drink.
Many years later, this same soldier was on duty with others while a "Criminal" was being crucified among other criminals. This particular "criminal" asked for a drink. The soldier, looking sharply up at him, recognised the features of the kindly Boy who was once good to him. He realised that He was God. He dipped his spear, on the point of which was a sponge, in vinegar and held it to the dying lips. A smile was his reward.
