The Protestants seemed to have got secret information about the funeral they quickly assembled shortly afterwards with the intention of intercepting them. A young Catholic boy named Reynolds of Kill spied them on their way and raced to the stable and took out a very fast horse, mounted and rode across the country to convey the intelligence. He arrived just as the corpse was being hurriedly buried
The funeral party finished their work and prepared to meet their enemy who came upon them just as they were leaving the church yard. After a hard fight the Catholics drove them up the heights over the old graveyard and then quickly made their way secretly across the county till they reached home.
