    The halter or rope is always given.
    The 14th of May is one of the largest fairs held in Cavan every year. It is called the hiring fair.
    There used to be a dead pork fair held in Cavan where no other animals were sold only dead pigs.
    At the hiring fair all the servant boys and girls from every part of the country go to it to be hired until November.
