  1. (continued from previous page)
landlord. The man went to the landlord and told him his wife was after dying and he wanted £20 to bury her. The landlord was away and when he came home the Lady told him the man's business. The two took their walking sticks and went to find out the particulars about the funeral. When the old pair saw them coming they had a bed of straw in the corner. The old pair planned the two would pretend to be dead and they lay down in the straw. The Landlord and his Lady came in and they were dead and the Landlord said to the Lady " I would give £20 more if I knew which of them died first". The old Lady jumped up and said "It was I", and earned the £20.
