  1. We sow something over an acre of potatoes every year.
    When the people are sowing the potatoes here they cut the furrows with a plough. Then they shovel the ridges with shovels. Other sow them with spades. The shape of the spade is :- (drawing of spade)
    Any house where there would be no help about twenty people would go and help them to put in the crop. When the potatoes are being dug the children of the house pick the potatoes into pits.
    The common sort of potatoes around here are Champions, Arran-Victors, Arranbanors, Epicures, and Kerrpinks. Potatoes are used for making starch and boxty.
