  1. All the local fairs are held in Arva now. They were not always so. Buyers used to remain at Cane's crossroads and buy cattle. This was discontinued. There is a field in the townland of Cormore about one and a half miles from Arva and there used to be a sheep-fair held in it every month. It is called the "fair field" yet. The man who owns the filed now is Pat Sheridan. this fair was discontinued about forty years ago.
    There is no toll paid on cattle sold. When an animal is sold there is luck money paid on it. There is a half crown given on a cow and
