    They were then left aside to dry, and when dry they were put in a candle-stick and when one was used another was lighted and so on 'till bedtime.

  2. The houses in olden times were long, low houses made of mud-wall. They were thatched houses. The thatch was procured from straw and rushes. The old houses had a bed in the kitchen. It was placed in the corner beside the fire. The fireplace was in the corner and sometimes it was against the side-wall.
