- Some people say that these are signs of the weather. - When you hear a bell which is far away in Arklow or Aughrim clear it is the sign of bad weather. When you hear people complaining that corns are paining them it is the sign of bad weather. When you see a cat washing her face with her paws before a fire it is another sign of wet weather. When you see goats coming home from the mountains it is also a bad sign. When there is a big circle around the moon you may expect rain in one or two days time. When the smoke out of a chimney goes up straight it is a sign of good weather. In the Summer time when we have dew in the morning we have what is generally a spell of fine weather. Some people bring a piece of sea-weed from the sea-shore and hang it up. When they notice the sea-weed getting soft it is the sign of wet weather. If the sea-weed dries up and gets hard it is the sign of fine weather.
