    chanced to spy,
    This poor man's shirt hanging out to dry.
    4th verse
    The Sergeant he looked like a man in array,
    He said eighteen pence you will pay down on the nail,
    Before Ebbs and Tate you will have to appear,
    For bleaching your linen you'll have to pay dear.
    5th verse
    To the court on a summons this poor man was brought,
    Like Biddy Dolan the Sergeant Slipped on the green cloth.
    Such swearing was never heard since Jimmy O'Brien,
    Eighteen pence on this poor man was laid as a fine.
    6th verse
    Nancy the Captain this fine she refused,
    She said for the first time she might be excused.
    Excused said the Sergeant, I will have you to know,
    If you don't pay the fine to the jail you will go.

    Decree on the substance was instantly got,
