  1. St. Martin's Day was supposed to be an unlucky day for working. Mills do not work nor threshing is not done.
    In old times people would not whitewash on the first day of May. They would not sweep the floor on a May morning.
    Whit Monday is an unlucky day for a mare to foal. There are certain cold days in April called Reavogue days.
