lived in Roscommon, and they had no turf to burn. So they came over in punts and cut off some of the branches off the tree and brought them home to burn. But alas, the branches wouldn't burn. There was an old woman living in Roscommon and she told them if they didn't leave back the branches the old man would haunt them.
So they left them back again and from that day to this if you ever got a piece of this old tree it wouldn't burn for you. And the old tree is to be seen still but it is decaying away.
