Old Trades
Long ago there were many old trades in the district of Tullamore. One of these trades was nail making, There is a man named Patrick Power in Convent View who used to make nails. He used to make the nails in a forge in Kilbride Street and the ruins of this forge are to be seen in Kilbride Street to this day. The nails were made out of sheets of iron, which were bought from the blacksmiths.
Flax was also grown in Tullamore. When the flax came up it was cut and brought into barns. It was then put on a flat upland piece of wood and chopped with a wooden.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
