There is a certain herb which grows on the old castle in Ferns which is a splendid cure for kidney trouble.
Mrs. Murphy of Ferns has a cure for sore eyes. She boils an herb called Penny-Leaf and reduces it to a liquid which she pours into a bottle. It is left for a short time till it is fit to use.
The common nettle is also used as a blood purifier. The young nettles are boiled in the spring and used as a vegetable.
This also prevents pimples and rashes.
Robin-run-the-Hedge is another herb which is used for childish ailments.
The ivy-leaf is used in applying ointment to cuts and sores. It has cooling and healing properties.
