    Other people got a cocker dog of Mr White and a gun to frighten the crowd that were digging the gold. As soon as Watty McGray began to dig the gold, the other people let off shots out of the gun. When the dog heard the shot he ran to see where the shot echoed. When Watty McGray heard the shot he let the light fall, and seeing the fire in the dog's eyes thought it was the hound, and fainted. Watty McGray or any of the party dug for any more.
