  1. In olden times food was eaten seldom but it was very sustaining and people were much more healthy then, that now.
    People arose early and partook of yellow meal or oat-meal stirabout, and butter-milk.
    The next meal of the day was served at noon when potatoes and salt and skimmed milk were eaten.
    The last meal was eaten after the day's work and consisted of stirabout and butter-milk or potatoes and butter-milk.
    The tables were hung up against the wall, and let down on one leg when they
