  1. This is what local tradition says about King James after he passed through Dublin still steering south James steered on through Wicklow and Carlow, into Wexford. He was making his way to Duncannon Fort where he was sure of shelter and a chance of a ship back to France.
    He halted his horse at the foot of Slieve Coillte (a hill near New Ross, Co. Wexford) at a little house right above the village of Aclare (New Ross). The mountain was then covered with trees. The little farm-house was well hidden among the trees, the real thing for a King on the run.
    When he knocked on the door a homely little woman answered him
