In olden times when men were healthy and stronger than now...

    (continued from previous page)
a finish on a Saturday evening and on Sunday morning, at 6 o'clock they started for home again, their wages in one pocket and bread and meat in the other pocket. They walked home the same journey again, and when they came home their own oats were ripe and they were seen out reaping at 6 oclock next morning. They continued working every day until they finished cutting their corn. These men were able to carry on their backs 55 stones of oats without any trouble. They were strong because they used no bad food in their youth such as tea, sugar or sweets and they lived to be about 97 years of age and during that time they never suffered with the tooth-ache.
