    This oat-bread is placed on a "bread-iron" in front of the fire until baked.
    The potato-cake is made by adding cold cooked potatoes to flour in equal proportions. Diagonal marks are put on the cake.
    Griddle-bread used to be made about forty years ago on a griddle.

  2. "Travelling people" still call to houses in this district and the same people have been doing so for many years. They seem to be comfortably off. They sell such articles as rush-mats, photo frames, collar-studs, and the people usually buy from them.
    They get their supplies from their local shops. They often remain for a week and call to the farmers for potatoes, turf, and hay. They travel in families in ponies and carts.
    They generally come for the fairs. They tell stories and sing songs and people gather round them to listen them.
