  1. About eighty years ago there was a terrific snowfall. It kept snowing for a week. After that it began to freeze, it kept freezing for seven weeks. The roads, fields and lanes were filled with snow. Know person could know where the roads or hedges were, all were completely covered. Farmers going and coming from fairs drove cattle across fields and hedges. The ice was so strong on Lough Gowna that some men carted manure across the lake.
