  1. The most of the Irish army at the battle of Ballinamuck came from Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim. One of these men all the way from Killala when trying to make his escape in the direction of Edenmore was shot down on my grandfathers farm. His remains were buried in the mearing ditch between James McWade's and my grandfather's farms. The spot is marked by a little mound in the ditch with a stone at either end. The poor fellow sleeps far away from his native Killala.
