- People usually get married before Shrove Tuesday which proceeds Ash Wednesday.
On Shrove Tuesday night it is the custom in every house to make pancakes and put a ring in it and it is said who-ever gets the ring is supposed to be married before the coming Shrove.
Fridays and the month of May are considered unlucky, for getting married.
Made matches are made by a man going into a house to ask for a girl, and especially if she has a fortune, and fortunes are made also by giving cattle or other stocks.
