  1. I
Fare thee well, old Ireland, a long fare well,
So bitter parting no tongue can tell,
For I now must cross o'er the ocean wide,
From my Cottage home by Lough Sheelin side.
    II
The village dance round the Shamrock shore
Caused Ireland's young sons to stray,
Brought Eileen blushing home my bride,
To my cottage home by Lough Sheelin side.
    III
But her young hopes were too great to last,
The landlord came our lives to blast,
He to us did no mercy show,
And turned us out in the blinding snow.
    IV

If so his vengeance on them would fall,
Poor Eileen fainted and she died,
Whilst the snow fell fast by Lough Sheelin side.
    V
We laid her in the graveyard low
