- There was a great flood in June 1919. It destroyed all the crops. A great number of cattle, sheep, and horses were lost. It is supposed that it brought away bridges and that the wind tore up roads in places. Turf was swept from the bogs with both and water. A mare and foal were killed at Kells and they were brought away by the great deep rivers. Potatoes and all crops were destroyed. With all this destress the people nearly died with hungar and cold because they had nothing to eat and no fire to warm them.
