There is a field known as "the school house Field" on the old road from Lagore to Cabinhill (called the Cruahaud) where there was a school in olden times. There was also a "hedge school" held in the house of Noah Birch. (Ned Gargan's old house now demolished)
On the site of the present school was the famous Mr Gillis' Academy where boys came from all over Ireland.
Mr Gillice's son The Revd Gillic was a very learned young man having being raised to the Dunboyne chais in Maynooth College.
He died a young man and a plaque to his memory can be seen in Ratoath church
