    There was a woman in Cartown who had only one cow. She used to have ten lbs of butter for the market every week. Someone asked her for a lone of a bit of yarn but she would not give it. It was said she used to wind round the cows on May eve.
    It is unlucky to change into a new house on Saturday
    If you are going to a new house it is lucky to bring salt
    "Saturdays flitting is a short sitting."
    It is unlucky to break a looking glass or to go into a house with a spade on your shoulder.
    If you meet a redhaired person on your way to the market you should turn back.
    A baby's first journey is to upstairs so that he will go up in life.
    When a new pump hole is opened the person who draws the first water is never to go near it again.
    It is unlucky to spill salt.
    If you let a knife fall you will have a visitor a man.
    If you let a fork fall you will have a visitor a woman.
    If you spill salt you should throw a piece over your left shoulder.
