- My Native Town My Native Town is Ennis, which gets its name from a small island in the Fergus. The Fergus takes the sewage of the town out to the sea by means of pipes which run through the streets, under the ground. There are many old buildings in Ennis, such as the old Survey, where the soldiers were long ago, and the old courthouse, were Daniel O'bonnell was elected member of Parlement, a few yards away stands his monument, which was founded by a man named Considine, to his memory.
The streets are narrow and congested, but for some years past there have been many modern houses built. There are only a few industries in Ennis, namely the Braid Mills and Whiting factor. The town is also noted for its fairs and markets and is generally recognized as a good business town.
About the reign of Henry the eight, the Ennis Abbey was surrounded by water.(continues on next page)
