    The Notorious Ellis.
    Ellis was a notorious land-agent for whose death two innocent men the McCormack brothers, were hanged. Ellis looked after the lands of Captain Trant of Dovea.
    One day Ellis was supervising the drawing of manure from a pit in the farmyard and a bit English draft horse failed to draw up a heavy load. He was unyoked and another big English horse took his place but he also failed. The man in charge of the horses went out and brought in an Irish cob which drew out the load with little trouble. This action on the part of the cob so enraged Ellis that he brought out his gun and shot the cob. This act shows the hatred the English bore the
