  1. On the farm of my grand-father, the Late Daniel Murphy of Scart, there is a little freestone quarry. Up to a hundred years ago the freestone was in great demand by institutions, in Cahir, Cashel, Tipperary and elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
The stone was white in colour. It was ground up, and used in scrubbing floors, tables etc. (To grind up a stone to do the scrubbing, would seem strange to them. In fact this particular stone is unknown to them.) The income of this quarry was very welcome, for the farmer who had to pay rack rent, that time, which was £3"12"0 per acre.
