    One summer's night the late James Cahill was coming from Dwyer's of Carrigeen with a donkey and car which he had borrowed to draw out turf from the bog the following day.

    cross at the horse & Jockey. The late "Dr" Shanahan a very famous "herb doctor" heard the noise and asked what was the matter. He heard some mysterious laughing and clapping of hands going on in the direction of the railway. The same thing occurred at the Jockey side of a small bridge which crosses the road between the station house and Maxfort Cross. The man replaced the car and proceeded home with any further mishap.
