    turkeys are not killed around Christmas, some of them are left over in case of a marriage feast. It is a custom to send presents, of fowl, particularly geese, to the house where the marriage feast is to be held.
    There is a belief that if the holly is left up until Shrove Tuesday it will remind someone in the house of getting married and so lessen the family.
