  1. About forty years ago a man named Mr. Moriarty lived in Coosáne. He used to make baskets and hampers with thin sticks called sallies. Those he used to sell to the farmers at a small price. The baskets were used for picking potatoes, and the hampers were used for drawing home the turf. The hampers are used yet in Galway and Mayo. Not far from our school there is a townsland called Dragg. A man named Mr. Patrick Fitzgerald lived there about fifty years ago. He was a smith. He used to make fire-cranes and spades and turf slanes.
    My Hewitt who lived in Ballinahinch used to spin wool when he used to have it spun he used to weave it. When he used to have it woven he used to make stockings and shawls. He used to sell the shawls to the people around at twelve and sixpence each. The material for making the shawls was got from the farmers after sheering their sheep.
    There is an old man named James Ryan living in Kilmastulla. His age at present is ninety six years. He was a cooper by trade. He used to make tubs and butter firkins.
    In old times there were two lime kilns in this locality. One was owned by Mr. O'Sullivan
