- There are ruins of an old castle situated in Garryard about a quarter of a mile from the public road. It was built by the O'Kennedys who lived there for some years. They wee driven out by Cromwell who gave it to a man named Prettie. Prettie lived there for some years and after the battle of the Boyne when the soldiers were returning home they attacked the castle and threw Prettie out. The castle is now in ruins and it is said that there are a great many rooms underneath. They are said to contain large bags of gold and some furniture. People often speak of digging for this gold but no-one never went in search of it yet.
