    My home district is called Ballywilliam and is in the townland of Burgess Beg and in the Barony of Owney and Arra.

    There was a small strong hold in the townland long ago and it got it's name as "An burgeis beag" and this was pronounced shortly as Burgess Beg.
    There are many old people who have gone over seventy years and a few bordering one hundred for instance - Mr Michael Bonfield Gortmore. The oldest woman in the parish of Ballywilliam is Mrs. M. Gleeson who is ninety seven years and the oldest man my Grandfather who is ninety - three years.
    Houses were a lot more numerous long ago because there are many fields which got their names from people who lived in them. There are many ruins left
