Jackson was a very cross man and he would sack a man if he saw him idle. The fun was going on when suddenly Jackson appeared at the door. No one saw him but one man and that man got a (sheafe) sheaf hit a woman with it and said "I will make you scutch it clean". Then Jackson went away thinking that there was no fun going on.

One time there was a mistress in Kilruane school. called Miss Ward. This woman was very fond of sport. At this time there was very little sport in Ireland not like now, as there was only pitching for a pastime. This woman used to come to the cross-roads to pitch. At this time there lived in Rapla a very clever man who used to pitch as well, but he did not want Miss Ward to be pitching because he said it was not a girls game, so he planned to stop her by "hook or by crook".
One evening when "Miss Ward" came to the cross-roads there was no one there but the "prime boy". He asked her to have a game and she said she would. Before the started to play the man said "Harps I win, heads you lose. They went on(continues on next page)- Collector
