  1. There was a well in the Eglish district known as Saint Simons well, and there are many stories told in connection with it. Unfortunately this well is dried up for a great number of years owing it is said to some thoughtless woman having washed clothes in it. The walls of the well and the stone stps leading to it are still intact. On one large stone on the top of the wall there is an inscription in Latin. It is remarkable that although the well is situated in low-lying marshy land which
