  1. Old Crafts - Barrel-Making

    Roinn Roinn Postáil
    Drawing, this object was used for tracing the "Shimes" or grooves onn the rim of the barrel.
    Barrel making was carried on in this district over fifty years ago.
    Method - Long oak logs were split into staves. The staves were planed and prepared. A tress hoop was placed on the ground and the staves were placed in position on the inside of the whoop. A second tress hoop was placed around the top of the staves and a fire was kindled in the middle probably to give the staves a shape.
