Perhaps one of the most ancient customs practised in this country is at Hallow Eve which falls on the 31st day of October.

Perhaps one of the most ancient customs practised in this country is at Hallow Eve which falls on the 31st day of October. The eating of nuts, the playing of snap-apple, and the telling of what is going to happen you, are the chief amusements practised. A long string on which an apple is hung is suspended from the ceiling. Every person's hands are tied behind their backs and then they make a snap at the apple. The person who takes the first bite from the apple wins it.
