    After some time they heard singing and dancing and the father went down into the hole and disappeared. His companion on returning without him was blamed by the neighbours for his disappearance. when a week passed and the Christening was over, as the father had not yet returned the companion was accused of murdering him. He denied it and again he told of his friend's disappearance. He asked for a year and a day to prove he spoke the truth. Every night after dusk he used to go to the fort where he had disappeared and call out and pray until he had but one more day left in which to vindicate himself.
    That evening he thought he saw the shadow of his friend within. He went down the hold and heard the sound of singing and dancing and he saw his friend dancing with the fairies. He caught him by the sleeve, stopped him from dancing and dragged him outside where
