  1. There were shops in Askeaton long ago just as many as there are at the present day. People used buy their goods in the shops and from ,all, travellers.
    Buying and selling was carried on after Mass on Sundays by the country people this is carried on also at the present day.
    Selling used to be mostly done at fairs and markets, when selling cattle, sheep and horses. Long ago if persons were not able to pay for what they bought in money they pay them in crops or hay or pasture for animals or what
