On the Kerry-Cork line near the bounds of the three counties, can be seen the remains of a house. Local traditions say that in this house the hunted Earl of Desmond, his wife and the Papal Nuncio hid, while the Protestant Earl of Ormond hunted the country for them. It is said that they fled to the river Feale and hid up to their necks in water while the soldiers searched the house for them. Its late owner organised and trained the Fenians there before the Rising of '67.
