  1. One day St Bridgid started from Kildare to visit the St Ita of Kileely. Night fell upon her about a mile and a half west of Newcastle West. So she asked a nights rest of a chief that lived in a fort nearby. The chief gave her the nights rest. In the morning she began to preach to the chief and his people. They believed and were converted. When she looked for water to baptise them she could find none so she scouped a hole with her hand
