old customs and beliefs are kept yet and it is said the month of May and May eve are supposed to be days of charms and on that account grown up girls go out to pick long strips of "slanlus" and beat every one whom they met as if it were that the "slánlus" had power over charms.
St. John's night bonefires were lighted and all the cows were driven through the flames to take away the charms if any were in them.
