  1. On the Southern side of the Owenabue there is a ridge of clay deposit which gives the river its yellow colour which in flood; hence its name Owenabue. On this ridge a Pottery was established about sixty years ago by an English man named Ormond. It manufactured brick and flower pots, tiles for roofing & flooring and also ridging and garden tiles of every description, as well as pipes, which were used locally for drainage of land.
    The concern was worked successfully for a number of years but owing to the working expences, particularly the cost of coal, the industry became depressed and the owner bankrupt. It was taken over by the Hibernian Bank who worked it successfully for about twenty years by hand labour until late Mr John Sisk, builder in Cork city, purchased it from the bank, introduced new machinery for the manufacture of bricks and tiles.
