  1. Local Marriage Customs
    The period of the year that marriages occur most frequently is during Shrove and Shrove Tuesday. The months of the year that marriage are considered unlucky are, May and October. The days that marriages are considered unlucky are Monday and Friday.
    The last night of Shrove is known as Sceilg night. On that night young men dress up in a very old fashion and come around to the house of old maids and drag them out and carry them two fields away from their own houses. Next morning you would hear the people saying that they were gone to Sceilg.
