  1. There are three old castles in the district, namely -
    David's Castle in the townland of Ballymorrisheen, County of Cork, and Barony of the Barretts. Barretts Castle is in the townland of Monaparsin, in the Parish of Mourne-Abbey and in the Barony of the Barretts, Blarney Castle is in the townland and parish of Blarney and the Barony of East Muskerry.
    Blarney Castle was built by Mac Carthy Mór during the fifteenth century. In the seventeenth century Cromwell knocked the top off it with a shell.
