  1. Long ago, it was generally supposed in Ireland, that the inhabitants of the raths, or commonly known as forts were fairies.
There is a large fort in this locality; it is situated on the lands of Mr. W. O'Mahony, Garryduff, Clonmult, Midleton, Co. Cork.
It is a large gloomy mound of earth. It is rather high and a magnificent view of the surrounding country, can be obtained by standing on the northern fence of the fort.
In ancient times, it was supposed to be inhabited by fairies. This belief was confirmed by a man from Ballynoe, Tallow, Co. Waterford.
One night, it is said as this man was returning home, from playing cards at a certain house, he had to pass by the above named fort, and imaging his astonishment to hear the most beautiful singing in the fort. It was beyond all earthly refrain.
He stood still, spell-bound and terror-stricken. At last he recovered and he decided to see what it was.
