   of the mould by supporting it with a stick across the centre of the mouth of it. The wick was made by platting three linnen threads together. When all was fized they filled the mould with the melted lard out of the pipe of a tea pot. They let it set for a day or two, and then they heated the mould to the fire, and the candle slipped out. The only difference that were in those candles was that they were a yellower colour than the candles that are selling now.

2. Nail-Making

   There wasn't any nails made in Ireland long ago, and so the smiths of the locality made them themselves. The man who made them for this district was Mac Donell. He had a small forge in Schull, near where Mr Whitley lives now. He had a number of different shapes, one for horse shoe nails
